- Congratulations to Aine Roberts who passed her FAA Part 135 checkride and qualified to fly charters around the Grand Canyon and nearby places in a monster Cessna Caravan.

- Our April FAA Wings seminar will be on Mountain Flying. Come and learn about the considerations when planning a mountain flight, including weather, density altitude, performance (or lack of it), and route selection. It will be on Tue April 3rd at 7pm in the RHV Airport Terminal building. Then you too can follow in James Alexander's and Santiago and Elsa Uzal's footsteps - see below.
- We have a newly minted pilot in our midst! Congratulations to Simran Sandhar for passing his Private Pilot checkride wih flying colors. Well done Simran.

- Another fledgling - Carrie Winegarden soloed in a Citabria under the watchful eye of Tristan Duplan. Well done Carrie!
- Well done to James Alexander for completing the Sierra Mountain Flying Checkout on March 13th with Dick Chang. Conditions were almost too nice!
- Congratulations to Elsa and Santiago Uzal. To celebrate their anniversary they planned a mountain flight with a tour round the Golden Gate on the way back. Happy Anniversary!

- Sammy Bloodhart became the latest solo pilot on March 7th when she took Citabria 32G around the pattern leaving Len on the ground watching. Congratulations Sammy!
- On Sunday the 4th Xavier Rogers took Champ 91E up for three circuits of the pattern without Vess in the back. Well done Xavier for learning to fly a plane before even learning to drive. He clearly has his priorities right!
When Xavier came back Vess ambushed him with a pair of scissors and cut off his shirttails.

- The first fledgling of March is Srikant Sharma who soloed Citabria 5032G on the 2nd under Grainne's anxious eye. Congratulations Srikant!

- Congratulations to the San Jose State University Precision Flight Team for winning third place overall at the Region II SAFECON competition. The 11 contestants won 21 top ten places between them. Our own Jennifer Koenig placed 2nd amongst the 11 women pilots and Vess Velikov placed 11th out of 55 men. Other highlights include Vess's 2nd place in the IFR simulator and Jenny's 5th place for Short Field approach and landing. For all the results see the SAFECON web site. The team is now going on to the national competition. For more about the Team see the San Jose State University Precision Flying Team Web Site. They do not receive any financial support from the University, and rely purely on donations and their own resources. Please support them! Amelia Reid Aviation will gladly pass on any donations and we also have souvenir items for sale for their benefit.
- Aine Roberts successfully earned her CFI certificate in a gruelling two day marathon checkride with not just one but two FAA inspectors. Congratulations Aine!
- Jeremy Zawodny earned his Private Pilot certificate in his own Citabria no less. Well done Jeremy.
January 2007
- Another new fledgling leaves the nest. Luther Johnson successfully flew his first solo in Champ 2805E after expert instruction from Vess. Well done Luther. Here he is after Vess cut his shirttails off. Apparently it was Luther's wife's favorite shirt, Oops!

- We have a second flying Luvara! Mike Luvara followed his brother's example and has flown his first solo. No wonder Len looks a little nervous. Congratulations Mike.
- Another Jeff flies the coop. Jeff Frederick flew his first solo, in his own airplane no less, while Eric Ruhe watched nervously from the ground. Pilot and plane performed flawlessly and we have another New year's fledgling! Well done Jeff.

- We are delighted to announce that Mike Forsyth will be teaching at Amelia's. Mike has retired from TWA and has over 25,000 hours under his belt, in every sort of airplane from the big jets to a Piper Cub.
- Yo, ho, ho and greetings of the season to everyone! We already have two new certified pilots this year:
- Congratulations to Aaron Lepold for passing his Private Pilot checkride in 5032G. The blue and white Citabria proved lucky, the checkride went smoothly and Mike Shiflett was very complimentary. Well done Aaron and his instructor Patrik Rosenast.
- Well done to James Alexander who earned his Private ticket in the Cessna 172 61637. Rumour is he lands it like a taildragger, thanks to the patient instruction from Jim Grant. The weather caused James' ride to be postponed several times, but a fine stretch opened up and he took Mike Shiflett up to demonstrate his skills. Duly impressed, Mike produces the certificate. Congratulations James!
- We have a brand new Zlin Savage Cub on line as a loaner. Come and try it out. Give us your feedback. If we get enough positive feedback we may consider putting on on line permanently. See the Savage Cub Web Site
