Justin Paladino passed his Crtified Flight Instructor checkride with flying colors on Oct 31st - Haloween! Well done Justin, maybe this will cause your students to become bewitched!
-
Congratulations to Paul Harmon who soloed on Friday Oct 21st.
-
The price increase for the airplane rentals has been finalized and the new prices are posted up on the web site and also about the office. We have tried to keep them as reasonable as possible and we still provide the best value for money in the Bay Area, especially when you subscribe to the block scheme. Instruction rates and membership fees remain unchanged.
-
Congratulations to Stason Foster who joined the ranks of Private Pilots on Monday Oct 17th. Well done Stason.
-
We have a new solo pilot! Rick Vander Kam is the latest student officially authorized to roam the skies on his own. Well done Rick!
-
N53893 is back! Looking beautiful and flying great. We have deliberately equipped it with thinner cushions so the extra tall pilots can still fit.
-
The rising fuel prices are on everyone's mind. Our costs are about a Dolar per gallon higher than they were in April this year and we will be increasing our prices. Details will be finalized in a week or so.
-
We have a new section on the Web site for useful (or just interesting) documents.
See Members/Useful Documents -
Our best wishes for a speedy recovery go to Bob Goodwyn who underwent an operation to reconect a severed Achilles tendon. You can email Bob at bob@ameliareid.com . We hope to see him back soon, though for a while he will be doing only ground instruction.
-
An auspicious start for October already has a first tailwheel solo for Julius Timbol. Julius actually has time in a Pitts doing acro, and he wanted to be able to take off and land by himself. Congratulations Julius. All that remains is to learn to do it in a Pitts now!

September 2005

The final fledgling of September is Kevin Pereira who soloed 1806G on the 30th. Well done Kevin!
- Guess what? We should not have been so proud of our new paintwork. A burst pipe join in the ceiling managed to cause a flood and damaged some of the walls. Our apologies for the appearance while we dry out the walls. Thanks to Stason for turning off the water or it could have been a lot worse..
- On a non-aviation oriented note, we have reprogrammed the drinks vending machine. Two new flavors are available, Diet Dr Pepper and Lemonade. To achieve this we had to rearrange the buttons on the machine so pay extra attention if you were used to just hitting the same button every time ;-)
- Chris Gray is the latest pilot to scare his instructor enough to get out and let him go solo. Well done Chris.
Jean-Francois Vincent managed to persuade the examiner that he deserves the Private Pilot License. Jean-Francois passed his checkride on Sep 14th in N1806G. Well done!
- Another fledgling leaves the nest and slips the surly bonds of earth. Well done Brian Knowles who has soloed in the Champ.
- C
ongratulations
to Vess Velikov for winning his class in the aerobatic competition
in Delano. Vess is too humble to boast, but we heard from other
sources that he beat the second-placed pilot by a mile. Vess was
flying N88353 while the next placed guy flew a Christen Eagle.
One of the judges was overheard saying that Vess's entry maneuver,
a one turn spin, was the best he'd seen since he started judging.
Our first pilot to gain his solo wings and lose his shirttail
in September is Jeff West. Well done Jeff!
- 53893 will be down for abouth a month for maintenance. While she is down we plan to recover the fuselage with new fabric and repaint her.
A
new face has been noticed around the office. Mira Burnstan has
come all the way from Switzerland and will be helping us.
- We will be participating in Reid Hillview Airport Day on September 24th giving rides in aid of the Airport Association and exhibiting in a booth. Come and visit us.
- You may have seen the new paintwork in the office. Our thanks to Allan Hughes for pushing to get this done and for doing the bulk of the work, and to Patrick Cabral for his help.
Come and fly with us in the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area of California. Our flight school is located at Reid Hillview airport in San Jose (KRHV), at the south end of San Francisco Bay and we offer ground and flight training for sport pilot, private pilot, commercial pilot, instrument rating, CFI (certified flight instructor), tailwheel, acrobatics, and multi engine certificates and ratings.
